1943 ‘Oversexed, overpaid and over here’ London 1943 - US soldiers reading the latest issue of Stars and Stripes newspaper. “The British regarded yanks then as well-meaning but blundering intercessors whom they rather preferred to have on their island than the Jerries. The yanks were, in the well-known phrase, ‘overpaid, oversexed and over here’, and were in British eyes overdecorated, overstaffed, overmaintenanced and overbearing.”
